Drone video for business: when and why it pays off
A drone gives the overview. FPV gives speed and closeness. Both can lift a film, and both can be wasted if the shot says nothing.
Short answer
Drone video pays off when size, location or movement is part of what you sell. Drone photography costs from NOK 4,900, drone photo and video from NOK 7,900 and FPV shoots from NOK 9,900, excluding VAT. As an add-on to a shoot, drone costs NOK 2,500.
Drone footage and FPV are two different things
A standard camera drone is stabilised. It hangs steadily in the air and gives smooth, wide shots: a property from above, a boat heading out the fjord, a facility in its surrounding landscape. This is what most people mean by drone video or aerial photography.
FPV stands for first person view. The pilot flies with goggles and sees what the drone sees. The drone is small, fast and not locked to the horizon, so it can follow a car through a corner, dive down a façade or fly in through a door, across the room and out a window in one continuous take.
Kristoffer Robin Tiller flies both for us, and has done so for Audi and Autosentrum Vestfold, among others. The choice between them is about what the shot should say, not about what looks most impressive.
When does drone video pay off?
A drone pays off when what you sell is large, sits somewhere that matters, or moves. The air then shows something a camera on the ground cannot capture.
FPV pays off when speed and closeness are the point, or when you want to take the viewer through a place instead of showing it shot by shot.
- Property and commercial buildings: location, plot, view and distance to the sea or the centre.
- Construction: progress over time and documentation of the finished project.
- Boats and cars: speed and lines in motion, on the water or the road.
- Hotels, tourism and experiences: the place and the nature around it.
- Events: scale and atmosphere, seen from above.
- Premises, workshops and shops: an FPV fly-through shows everything in one take.
When should you skip it?
A drone is not a mark of quality in itself. An office building in a business park does not become more interesting from a hundred metres up, and a service delivered at a screen rarely needs aerial shots.
Ask what the shot should say. If the answer is that it looks professional, the money is usually better spent on people, product and sound. Drone shots do most good as a few seconds in a film otherwise shot on the ground.
What do drone video and FPV cost?
These are our 2026 starting prices, excluding VAT. The final price depends on location, flight time, the number of finished clips and how much planning the shoot requires. Travel is additional.
If we are already shooting with you, drone is an affordable add-on. People and equipment are on site, and you pay only for the flying and the extra clips.
- Drone photo mini, from NOK 4,900.
- Drone photo and video, from NOK 7,900.
- FPV promotional shoot, from NOK 9,900.
- Advanced FPV production, from NOK 14,900.
- Drone as an add-on to a shoot, NOK 2,500.
Rules, permissions and weather
Drone flying in Norway is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (Luftfartstilsynet) and follows common European rules. There are restrictions around airports, over crowds and in some protected areas, and in some places permission has to be applied for in advance. That is why we always clear the location before confirming a date.
If we fly over or from private land, the landowner has to be informed. If people will be recognisable in the shot, the same rules on consent apply as for any other filming.
Weather is the other uncertainty. Wind, rain, fog and cold affect both safety and image quality. Always set aside a backup date, especially in autumn and winter.
- Is the operator registered with the Civil Aviation Authority?
- Does the pilot hold the competence the flight requires?
- Is there liability insurance covering the flight?
- Who applies for permissions, and how long does it take?
- What happens to the agreement if weather stops the shoot?
What we need from you
The more we know in advance, the faster we can say whether the shoot is feasible and what it costs. Feel free to send an address or a map pin with your enquiry.
We are based in Tønsberg and fly in Vestfold and across Norway.
- Where the filming will take place, and who owns the land.
- What should be shown, and what the video will be used for.
- Whether the filming is indoors, outdoors or both.
- The preferred time, and whether there is a backup date.
- Whether the drone footage goes into a larger film or is delivered on its own.
Key takeaways
- Use a drone when the place, the scale or the movement is part of the message.
- A standard drone gives calm overview shots. FPV follows movement closely and can fly through tight spaces.
- Drone photography from NOK 4,900, photo and video from NOK 7,900, FPV from NOK 9,900, excluding VAT.
- Weather, location and permissions decide whether the shoot can go ahead. Have a backup date.
- A few seconds of drone footage in a finished video often does more than a whole film from the air.
