The event
Powerboats, poker and the Færder archipelago — one of the summer highlights in Vestfold.
Færder Poker Run was held for the first time in 2024 and has quickly become one of the big summer events in Vestfold. Participants start from the wharf in Tønsberg, run between checkpoints through the Færder archipelago and are dealt a new poker hand at every stop. The best hands win prizes when the day is done.
This is no ordinary Sunday cruise. To enter, a boat must be at least 24 feet, do at least 40 knots and have a clear powerboat character — so it gathers some of the most impressive boats in the country, many of them worth several million kroner. The participants are used to the best, and expect everything around the day to match.
The day ends where it started, on the wharf in Tønsberg, with music and celebration as the boats tie up and the crowd gathers — before the prize-giving and the party in the evening.
The brief

The organiser hired us to film and document the whole of Færder Poker Run, from the morning on the wharf to the party in the evening, and to make an aftermovie for the participants.
For the participants, the day is an investment — in the boat, in the preparation and in the experience itself. The film had to be something they want to watch again and share: a memory of the day, and a reminder of why they sign up again next summer.
The production
Speed on the water, atmosphere on land.
A poker run takes place over several hours and a large area, so we planned the coverage around the course: drone over the field as the boats head out from Tønsberg and through the archipelago, boat-to-boat footage on the water to get close to the speed, and cameras on land at the checkpoints and on the wharf.
The people matter as much as the boats. We captured the atmosphere between legs, the talk at the checkpoints and the celebration as the field came back into town — so the film shows the whole event, not just the fastest shots.
In the edit the pace follows the day: full speed on open water, calmer passages inside the archipelago and full energy towards the end. Colour, sound design and music are made to bring out the roar of the engines and the feeling of a warm summer day on the fjord.
